Architectural metalwork · Spokane, Washington

Designed first. Built right.

Modern Steel Design is the design-department partner behind the metal package, supporting estimating, engineering, detailing, fabrication, finishing, delivery, and installation.

01 / Why MSD

The whole process matters

CAD is only useful when the shop can build from it.

Modern Steel Design was founded by Dayton Maynard after a working life around the full metalwork process. That experience goes beyond modeling parts to understanding how work gets priced, engineered, approved, cut, welded, finished, delivered, and installed. MSD brings that fabrication judgment into the project before expensive problems reach the shop or field.

01Find the gapsScope holes, conflicting dimensions, missing connections, unclear finishes, and field conditions that need answers.
02Design around realityAvailable material, shop equipment, weld access, hardware, coatings, shipping, erection sequence, and installer access.
03Release useful informationClear approvals, shop drawings, part information, cut files, quantities, RFIs, and installation intent.
02 / Selected Work

Not just renderings

Field conditions. Coordinated models. Information people can build from.

01 / Custom gate

Reclaimed brick was all over the place. Special hinges, careful layout, and custom anchoring made the gate fit the real opening.

03 / How MSD Helps

A design department partner for the shop

Keep the work moving from estimate to installation.

01

Preconstruction

Scope review, takeoffs, bid support, preliminary layouts, constructability input, and early questions before the number is locked in.

02

Design + Coordination

Concept development, field-driven modeling, client review packages, and coordination with architects, engineers, permitting, and other trades.

03

Shop + Fabrication Information

Approval drawings, shop drawings, part details, bills of material, DXFs, vendor-ready files, hardware, welds, finishes, and assembly intent.

04

Project Support

RFIs, revisions, procurement and outside-processing coordination, fabrication questions, field changes, and installation support through closeout.

04 / The Metal Package

One continuous process

Decisions made early show up in the shop and field later.
